Nigerian Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, were both absent at the Eagle Square, Abuja, where the nation’s 58th Independence anniversary parade was held.
Present at the parade were President Muhammadu Buhari; his vice, Prof Yemi Osinbajo; the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen; and former Heads of State, Yakubu Gowon, Abdusalam Abubakar among others.
Saraki and Dogara’s absence at the independence parade shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody, considering the recent political crisis leading to the defection of the two of them from the ruling APC back to PDP, their original party.
A photo exhibition depicting Nigerian history and an independence day dinner are also slated for today as part of the ceremonies to mark the 58th Independence anniversary celebrations.
