The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev Matthew Hassan Kukah has lost his mother, Mrs. Janet Abashen Hauwa Kukah. She died at the age of 86, in the early hours of Friday in Kaduna, Nigeria.

Mama Fada, as the deceased was fondly called, reportedly died surrounded by her immediate family members.

Mama Kukah was said to have been born in June 1934 at Katul village in the present Ikulu Chiefdom of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, in a reaction, has commiserated with the Bishop over the death of his mother.

Buhari, in a statement on Friday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, prayed to God to grant the deceased’s soul eternal rest.

The statement read, “President Muhammadu Buhari extends heartfelt condolences to the Most Rev Matthew Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, on the passing of his mother Janet Hauwa Kukah.

“The President also commiserates with members of the family of Kukah, praying almighty God to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.”

Also, in a condolence message he personally signed, the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said: “My deepest condolences, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah on the loss of your beloved mother, Mrs Janet Abashen Hauwa Kukah. There’s no loss like the loss of a mother. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. May her soul rest in peace.”
