
Former Captain of the Green Eagles of Nigeria and Enugu Rangers International, Christian Chukwu, has passed away. He died on Saturday morning, April 12, at the age of 74.
Chukwu’s Eagles and Rangers teammate, Emmanuel Okala, confirmed the death of the former player and coach of the Nigerian senior national team.
He rose to fame as a former Nigerian captain who led the Eagles to the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations title.
Apart from captaining Nigeria to its first Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON victory in 1980, Christian Chukwu nicknamed “Chairman’ for his leadership qualities also rose to become coach of the Super Eagles as well as his club side, Enugu Rangers International.
His coaching career also took him outside Nigeria to Kenya and Lebanon.
