National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has passed away. He died at the age of 100.
Pa Fasoranti was one of the most prominent figures in Yoruba socio-political affairs and a longstanding voice in Nigeria’s political development.
His death marks the passing of a leading figure in Afenifere, an organisation known for its advocacy for Yoruba interests, true federalism and restructuring in Nigeria.
Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State Governor, confirmed his death in a statement personally issued on Tuesday, October 20.
The governor described Fasoranti as an elder statesman whose life was devoted to public service and the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
He said the late Afenifere leader’s guidance and commitment to justice and good governance would be greatly missed.
Aiyedatiwa extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and residents of Ondo State.
Fasoranti was born on May 11, 1926, in Akure. He served as Commissioner for Finance under the administration of former Ondo State Governor Adekunle Ajasin between 1979 and 1983.
He later emerged as Afenifere’s leader following the death of Pa Abraham Adesanya and remained an influential voice in the organisation’s advocacy for federalism, restructuring and democratic governance.
