Former Nigerian Minister and later Nigerian Senator, Bello Maitama Yusuf, has passed away. He died in the early hours of Friday, October 13, at his residence in Kano after a brief illness.
Yusuf who was Minister for Internal Affairs in 1979, and Minister for Commerce in 1982 also served in the Senate from 1999-2007.
A family member, Alhaji Hussani Dalhatu, confirmed his death to newsmen. He said the late Sardauna of Dutse’s funeral prayer would take place after Jumu’at prayer at the Emir of Kano’s palace.
Yusuf was born in Gwaram, Jigawa State, in 1947.
He was educated at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and North Gate University, Washington, He was a member of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
