Suspended Chief Justice of Ghana, Gertrude Torkornoo, has sued the Ghanaian state at the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja, Nigeria, alleging human rights violations stemming from her suspension.
The suit her ladyship filed on July 4, announced by Deputy Attorney General Srem Sai on July 8, contends that her suspension constitutes unlawful removal without due process.
Torkornoo argues the action currently under domestic Supreme Court review, effectively ousted her from office prematurely, hence violating her constitutional rights.
“Her suspension impairs her right to function in a constitutionally appointed role,” Sai stated, confirming parallel challenges in Ghana’s High and Supreme Courts.
The case marks an unprecedented escalation of Ghana’s judicial crisis, testing regional human rights mechanisms against national governance disputes.
