Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped one spot, from 43rd to 44th, in the latest FIFA world ranking released on Thursday on the FIFA’s official website.
In Africa, the Super Eagles are now ranked fifth. Morocco leads the continent at 12th globally, followed by Senegal (18th), Egypt (34th), and Algeria (36th).
Rwanda, which will host the Super Eagles on matchday 7 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, has moved up to 127th, while South Africa, Nigeria’s matchday 8 opponents, remain 56th.
The Super Eagles enjoyed strong results during the last international break. In May, they won the 2025 Unity Cup in London under coach Eric Chelle, defeating Ghana and Jamaica. In June, they played a 1-1 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Moscow.
But, these performances were not enough to improve their global ranking.
The Super Eagles still hold the record as Africa’s highest ever ranked team, reaching fifth place in April 1994. That same year, they made their World Cup debut in the United States, advancing to the round of 16 from a group featuring Argentina, Bulgaria, and Greece.
