Tinubu honours Super Falcons with awards, $100k, homes, others

President Bola Tinubu has rewarded the Super Falcons with national honours, cash prizes, and homes following their historic win at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

In a ceremony at the State House in Abuja on Monday, Tinubu conferred the title of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all 24 players. Each player also received a three-bedroom apartment and a $100,000 cash gift.

Also, the technical crew wasn’t left out, with each member receiving $50,000 for their role in leading the team to a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in Rabat — securing Nigeria’s record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

“The Super Falcons have lifted the spirit of our nation and proven, once again, that Nigeria is unstoppable when we stand united.

“Your resilience, skill, and teamwork have brought honour to our country and inspired a new generation of young Nigerians,” Tinubu declared.

Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady and Nana Shettima, wife of the Vice President, were also present at the event to celebrate the champions.
