Nigerian media personality, actress, author, reality TV show host, and entrepreneur, Toke Makinwa has shared the personal experience that completely changed the way she approaches buying gifts for men in relationships.
While speaking on her podcast, ‘Toke Moments’ the media personality eflected on the past, she explained that her decision wasn’t random. It came from a painful experience with someone she once cared deeply about.
Toke said: “I stopped buying men gifts after I dated a man who was 10 years older than me. I spent my university semester’s school fees to celebrate his birthday and took him to an Italian restaurant in VI. He ordered everything on the menu. When we got home… there was another woman in his house.”
According to her, it’s clear why it left such a lasting impression on her. She had gone all out to make the day special, making sacrifices she could barely afford at the time.
Instead of ending with happy memories, the celebration took an unexpected and painful turn that stayed with her long after the relationship ended.
