Buhari Is Still A Dictator, He Has Not Changed –Archbishop Onaiyekan

According to Nigerianewsheadlines, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, the Catholic archbishop of Abuja, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop being a dictator and change not only others but himself.

The Whistler reports that the prominent cleric appealed to the president on Sunday, December 20, by saying:

“There is no sign that Nigeria has a president… the problem President Buhari has is that many Nigerians want to continue as they were doing before and they want everybody else to change, but not themselves.”

Onaiyekan criticized the federal government for not obeying court orders. He also stressed that it was wrong to kill unarmed pro-Biafra activists who dared to challenge the president’s dictatorship.

“If you all recall the incumbent president has a long history of a dictator, and never obeys court orders. He has not changed himself but wish to change Nigeria.

“Democracy is all about the rule of law. Three times he has disobeyed court orders in less than a year in office. Disobedience to court orders by those who should protect and ensure its compliance slides the nation to anarchy.

“You don’t act illegally, and as an oppressor of the people and expect the people not to resist such illegality via peaceful non-violent resistant protests.

“It is wrong to kill unarmed protesters who dare to challenge your dictatorship. It is wrong to deny the wounded medical care by further going to the hospitals to arrest them.

“It is wrong to deny out-rightly the freedom of choice for a people to decide whether or not they wish to remain within a territory,” the cleric said.
Earlier this year, the Catholic archbishop revealed what President Buhari should do to end Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast.

According to him, Nigeria’s leader should involve the deadly sect in negotiations.

“When you (government) reply fire for fire I am afraid it does not solve the problem. So, apart from military tactics there is need for more effort as political discussion, reaching out to people,” he said.

  1. President Buhari in my views as of this day has exercise restraint. As a military leader, in our initial encounter with him as our head of state stands out rightly effective and efficient. As per his promise during his campaign, he promised to be a democratic leader. I believe we owe him the opportunity to prove that to us. A constant condemnation from our privileged voices seems very unfair and scary.

All these criminals who include religious VIP’s, ex and current politicians are running around with their loots while we have other distracting the president and the Nigerian populace from paying attention on what is important. In my views. While all these mix-information and side shows are taking our attention, from the price and dividend of our desired elected officer’s performances. We must ask some of these personalities to shut up and forever hold their peace.

Quite a good example is the mentioning of Mr. Kanu, the agitator of Biafra Nation. The igbo’s went into a blind, un-thought out and destructive war that kept the igbo tribe where they are today. Why must we resurrect such pain and wound in such manner as he and his destitute groups are doing. As an Igbo, Biafra Nation is not and will never be our immediate priority. Our today priority is the poor and self-centered Igbo leadership.

Please allow the people elected President to see if he can change things and save our generation and others to come.

  2. This is equivalent to the sermon on the mount. But will the sworn Buharists ever listen. They keep nudging him on, because they are not at the receiving end of the current brutality. When it comes to their turn, they will be nobody left to mourn or even complain
