A 21-year-old Nigerian Air Force officer,  Airman Kalu Bernard, has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing his lover, Solape Oladipupo aka Shomzy Shomzy, at the Corporal and Below Quarters, Compound 9, Air Force Base, Makurdi in Benue state, on March 12, 2017.

Air Force officer Kalu had broken into the deceased home and shot her at close range after he suspected that she was cheating on him.

Kalu had been charged before the Nigerian Air Force court on an 8-count charge bordering on murder, house breaking, impersonation, attempted murder, among others.

Delivering judgment in the case yesterday, the President of the court, Gp. Capt. Elisha Bindul, found Kalu guilty in six out of the eight-count-charge and thereafter sentenced him to death by hanging which would be subject to the confirmation of the conveying authority.

Kalu’s counsel, Abimiku Ewuga, says he would appeal the judgment.
