Nigerian celebrities have been on the burnt of fake relationships scandals since ever-time. Sometimes these relationship rumours were either stirred by the celebs themselves, their publicist or some rumour peddler hungry for gist.
But why they lied about it in the first place may forever remain a mystery.
Below is a look at celebrity lovebirds whose relationships were revealed to be lies:
1.Tonto Dikeh and Wizkid
We obviously don’t know who started peddling this rumour but it was once claimed that Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh had a thing with then up and coming act, Wizkid.
It was claimed that Tonto and Wizzy were having a well shrouded romance, but things took a new turn when Tonto Dikeh finally debunked the rumor in an interview. She was quoted saying, Wizkid was just a friend like every other who she uses romantic names like honey, sweetheart, darling with.
Their’s was a lie.
2. Genevieve and D’banj
Actually theirs was an arrangement after she agreed to feature in D’banj’s ‘Fall In Love’ music video for a particular amount of money.
But it became a controversy when the then Mo-hits crew decided to use it as a leverage to boost D’banj’s image as a ladies man and the sale of his album, ‘Entertainer’.
Rumor had it that talks of abortion and pregnancy rumors for D’banj by Genevieve forced her to pull out of the arrangement. They could be said to have never been ‘involved’.
3. Banky W and Niyola
EME act, Niyola has been romantically linked to Banky W in the past following their super close relationships and their always acting all loved up on our TV screen.
But, the truth is, the duo were not actually in a relationship and have both debunked such rumors.
4. Don Jazzy and Tonto Dikeh
Although Tonto Dikeh is not far from controversy but when rumours started making the rounds that she once had an affair with music mogul, Don Jazzy they practically broke the internet.
Tonto further fuelled the rumours after a playful banter with the Don on Twitter. She is legally married to Mr. Churchill now.
5. Cynthia Morgan and Burna Boy
Popular Dance-hall singers were trailed by rumours after a picture of them locking lips surfaced on the internet. But, Cynthia debunked the rumour of an affair between her and Burna boy and revealed there is no serious emotional attachment between them.
According to her, they were working on a project together.
6. Chidinma and Flavour
Ever since their collaboration on hit song, ‘Ololufe’, Flavour and Chidinma have not been able to steer clear of dating allegations.
With a video that depicts Flavour and Chidinma in some suggestive positions, that song sent the wrong message to people and so the rumours began.
The duo have however come out to dispel the dating rumour, clearly stating that whatever they did in the video was professional and had no substance in their real life.
7. Genevieve Nnaji And Atiku Abubakar
Once upon a big time, there was this rumoured love affair between Genevieve and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
The duo were closely linked together but Genevieve in an interview on the Teju Babyface show revealed she has never even met Atiku before
