Abuja event Centre withdraws ADC convention approval

Supreme Court of Nigeria (SCN) has fixed April 22 for the hearing of an appeal arising from the leadership crisis created by Nafiu Bala Gombe in the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The appeal was filed by the party’s National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark, who is challenging earlier court decisions concerning the dispute within the party.

It is challenging the March 12 judgment of the Court of Appeal, which dismissed Mark’s earlier case contesting a September 4, 2025 ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, set the date on Tuesday after granting an accelerated hearing for the case marked SC/CV/180/2026.

In the earlier ruling, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court had declined to grant injunctive relief sought in an ex parte application filed by a member of the party, Nafiu Bala Gombe.

At Tuesday’s sitting, the Supreme Court directed Mark’s counsel, Jibril Okutepa, to file and serve the appellant’s brief within a shortened timeframe in line with the accelerated hearing.

The court also ordered respondents to file their responses within three days of service, while allowing the appellant just one day to file a reply, if necessary.
