This is to state again that we, the Afenifere USA are solidly in support of the decisions taken by the Mainstream Afenifere at its Lagos summit which took place at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja on Thursday, March 19 that Yoruba should vote en-mass for Dr. Goodluck Jonathan in the coming presidential election.
We the Afenifere USA see a lot of sense in the report of the 2014 National Conference if most of them can be implemented. We are in support of the Candidate who has vowed to implement them and that such implementation goes with the philosophy of the late Sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his effort towards ensuring immeasurable progress and development in Yorubaland.
We are aware of the meeting of the Yoruba Assembly which took place at Ibadan on March 19 and want to say that there is no sincerity behind such meeting and its outcome. We believe that the Ibadan meeting was pivoted to suit the political scheming of the APC, as it was not for a Yoruba agenda.
While we have unquantifiable respect for some of our Senior citizens like Chief Ayo Fasanmi and General Alani Akinrinade who attended the Ibadan meeting, we wonder how they could sit down with people who bought one single bed at N50 million just for a husband and wife to sleep on in a government house. This is a sum that can transform the lives of 50 unemployed graduates in Nigeria and they say they are the change that Nigeria needs.
We wonder how our revered Chief Ayo Fasanmi who, while as a Senator in the 2nd republic, living in a flat at 1004, Victoria Island, Lagos who had always insisted that his daughter, a Unilag student then should always visit him by boarding public buses instead of sending a car and driver to pick her up, could find it easy to support those who have converted the whole of Lagos to their personal estate beside super-imposing their family members on the generality of Nigerians without shame.
We are too little to look at your eyes, our two eminent senior citizens but want to tell you with respect to create a distance from those that have been begging you to be present in their midst to earn them some credibility. A meeting conveyed by people who do not want true federalism in Nigeria is not in the best interest of Yorubaland. The Yorubanation will surely get over this season of contradictions.
