Rights activist and senior lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, was yesterday embarrassed at the 14th Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture in Lagos when youths present at the lecture venue attempted to stop him from entering the venue, chanting ‘ole, ole’ at him.
Ozekhome was among the speakers listed by the organizers to speak at the annual lecture with the theme: “Federalism, Restructuring and Good Governance: Striking a Balance”.
There was a press release a few days ago by a group asking him not to attend the program.
The youths said it is an insult on the legacy of late Gani Fawehinmi to allow Ozekhome who has been defending corrupt leaders and politicians in court, to speak at his annual lecture.
Ozekhome is presently defending wife of the former President of Nigeria, Patience Jonathan in a $15.5million laundering case. He also defended Dino Melaye in his recall suit.
It took the intervention of humanrights activist, Femi Falana and other elders at the function before Ozekhome could be smuggled into the venue.
