The parents of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu have described as stringent, the bail conditions given to him by an Abuja High court on Tuesday.

Eze Israel Kanu and wife, Ugoeze Sally, both rejected the stiff bail conditions and urged the Nigerian Government to release their son unconditionally.

Speaking with newsmen at his Afaraukwu palace in Umuahia, Eze Kanu said it was unheard of that in an internal matter, a person standing trial should have a surety who is a foreigner, adding the bail conditions were signs that the Federal Government was not willing to let go of his son.

“It has never happened anywhere in the world that a person standing trial for an internal matter would be asked to procure a foreigner as surety. From where do they expect those sureties to bring the hundreds of millions of naira they judge has stipulated?” he queried.

He assured that Kanu would remain in Nigeria to face his trial if granted bail, stressing that the stringent bail conditions were uncalled for. He urged Ndigbo to rally round his son until he regains his freedom.

On her part, Kanu’s mother said even after her son may have been regained his freedom, she would not encourage him to back out of the struggle because of his ordeal.

“Of course, he will carry on. No retreat, no surrender,” she told newsmen, adding that Biafra should be actualised.
