Attorney Lateef Ogunlayi needs help to regain his sight

Uncategorized

Lateef%202Lateef Olabisi Ogunlayi, a native of Ikole Ekiti, was in his car outside a local 7/11 convenient store in MD (4400 block off Asbury Avenue) USA, when he unfortunately was in the middle of a vicious armed robbery gun attack that aimed at his head. A bullet severed his optic nerve, distorting his sight.

That fateful event has put his life on hold since Tuesday August 26, 2014. Ogunlayi had suffered disastrous damages in his head temple and also in his optics shot that punctured through his head. In spite of a surgical reconstruction he underwent at John Hopkins Hospital Baltimore Maryland in 2014, his sight is yet to be recovered. He was advised to go for another Surgery at Retina Association of South Florida (Park Creek Surgery Centre in Coconut creek, FL) to help recover his eye sight.

The Retinal Endovascular Surgery (REVS) is government-approved but not funded nor covered by existing insurance – as it will need about $40,000.00 to execute the surgery, recovery and aftercare. It is a clinical trial with recent success that is treated with stem cells using the New Technique.

Ogunlayi has since been under intensive care in different health facilities in Maryland and Ohio State and made progress with the recovery. But the hope to restore his sight has been hindered by funds.

He is a father of four and the breadwinner of the family. He holds degrees in Law, Medieval History, and Political science amongst others.

Those who know Lateef describe him as is a highly cerebral individual. He is quite active in cyberspace and well respected in intellectual forums. Lateef enjoys digging up archival pieces and events that bear relevance on the contemporary. He is a very patriotic Ekiti and Nigerian.

The family has raised some funds for other logistics but will need our help him regain his sight. Since his existing insurance does not cover sight, the family has reluctantly decided to go public to raise funds to save his sight. The surgery will take place as soon as the funds are available.
