Former Presidential Spokesperson, Reno Omokri says according to the scriptures, bride price is only paid for brides who are virgins. Taking to his Twitter handle on Saturday November 7, he wrote:
“What I am going to say will shock people. Scripturally, Bride Price is ONLY paid for virgins. Don’t argue with me. Argue with God. See Exodus 22:16-17. By virtue of Scripture (and also in traditional African society), you pay no Bride Price for non Virgin.
We produce the verse in 2 versions below:
Exodus 22:16-17 NIV: “If a man seduces a virgin who is not pledged to be married and sleeps with her, he must pay the bride-price, and she shall be his wife.
Exodus 22:16-17 NKJV: “If a man entices a virgin who is not betrothed, and lies with her, he shall surely pay the bride-price for her to be his wife. If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the bride-price of virgins.
