Don’t cry for us Argentina, we don’t need your tears! By Steve Aluko

….and so a thought of Evita Peron flashed in my thoughts just after the final whistle!  I guess my thoughts were being poetic. The expected had just happened anyway, another thought flashed!
Then again I remembered the trials and tribulations the former late Argentina First Lady turned strong woman went through to get to where she got to! Her early poverty, her struggle to survive tainted with ‘runs’ so it was whispered and captured in between subtle lines in the film Evita! Then I remembered Argentina had taken on a super power in the Falkland island! Then I remembered more importantly that Argentina had won the World Cup twice! These are things that concentrate ones thoughts into reality!
So my thoughts proceeded to the team that had just lost,  Nigeria my country! They say bad luck comes in threes! One we had just lost, two we had just lost souls needlessly in Plateau State,  and three news coming out statistically, shows we have overtaken India in the number of poor in a country!
Even the consternation of forces  of circumstances  did not favour us !
In all this there is hope  we may be going through the travails of Evita Peron as a nation!  We may have suffered on the pitch because we had a relatively young team,  but like our coach said!  This team may have fallen short of experience but if  kept together they will do well in 4 years time!
Let us to not forget that tonight there is still wailings, sorrow and sadness in parts of plateau  state as they bury their dead!  May the soul of the departed rest  in peace!
On the part of our govt they have not done enough! Possibly  this latest round of killings will jolt the govt finally into reality!  And finally take sides with the people against this scourge
People cannot just be killed constantly  like this the latest official figure being 100 dead although the unofficial figures coming in through the grapevine reads higher!
It seems as if we don’t have the numbers to protect the large expanse  of land!  It also seems the force we have stands on shaky grounds being reactionary  rather than pro active!
The crucial thing is always the response  time to cover that wide expanse of land!  To cover this ,we need helicopters  more of it  to monitor from the skies!!
When killings continue  like this we begin to wonder and question the will to tackle the scourge!  As it appears our govt stands helpless!
It’s been a bad month yet again for us as a nation!  Some now need a respite!  But sadly if even the govt cannot cry and weep for our dead how do we expect outsiders to cry for us!
Definitely tonight Argentina will not be crying for us!  We in turn do not need their tears  the only tears we need is the genuine heart felt sorrow and tears from our govt to prompt them into genuine action not token, haphazard and sporadic reaction!
Yes ‘don’t cry for us Argentina we need not your tears for now, the tears we need is the one that will herald a true change in tackling the scourge of the herdsmen!
