The calibre of men being recruited to serve in the Nigeria police is on the low side as revealed in this disturbing video of a drunk policeman ridiculing himself by sleeping in the mud.

According to PoliticsNGR, the video was taken by some youths after the officer was found stumbling after getting himself drunk. Some said he probably might have serious family issues at home and drank himself to stupor so as to forget his worries.

The video has been met with anger as many people wondered what would have happened if such an officer had a gun with him.

  1. Oh! A pity sympathisers find some extenuating circumstance to justify this man’s unethical conduct. The police department/commission should have, by now, have had in place, a psycho-social profiling assessment for current and prospective serving police officers to ensure they hold the desired mental health needed to serve people and other protection processes. After all statistical data informs we don’t have sufficient personnel ratio to combat various policing remits nationally, which is why there’s so much gap to fill and issues to address where public safety and security are concerned. Do we then have justifications for rampant bribe-taking, extra-judicial killings, selling/lending of the Force’s munitions to criminal affiliates or the ‘top-down’ directives for illegal postings. Too many wrongs the police commission should look into for reform. The legislatures and the judiciary also need to focus on way forward to reforming the law enforcement agencies to uphold the nation’s integrity. There are existing problems unaddressed and there will continue to be more as new recruits get in line to serve.
