Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to commence the prosecution of former minister of state for defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, for allegedly collecting funds from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, in the build-up to the governorship election in Ekiti state in June 2014 and Osun state in August 2014.

According to Daily Trust, a source at the anti-graft agency said the EFCC had so far recovered the sum of N473 million out of the N4.68 billion allegedly collected by Obanikoro and shared to Ekiti state governor, Ayodele Fayose and Senator Iyiola Omisore towards their 2014 governorship contests.

The source also stated that the sum of N350 million has been recovered from Omisore out of the N1.7bn allegedly transferred to him by Obanikoro, towards his (Omisore’s) 2014 governorship contest on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun state. It was reported that recovered funds are said to be part of the N4.68 billion, allegedly collected by Senator Obanikoro from the office of former NSA, Sambo Dasuki, in August 2014.

The EFCC source said out of the N4.68 billion allegedly received from the former NSA the sums of N1.3 billion and $5 million were said to have been separately given to Fayose. The commission stated that additional N300 million was allegedly given to Omisore directly from the NSA’s office through FIMEX GUILT Nigeria Limited.
