Chief Inegite Jonathan, uncle and foster father to former President Goodluck Jonathan abducted by armed gunmen on February 17, has regained his freedom.

It was gathered that shortly after his release on Tuesday, the 72-year-old went for a medical check-up at the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, capital of Bayelsa State.

Mr Asinim Butswat, Spokesman for Bayelsa Police Command who confirmed the development on Tuesday evening, said that details of the freedom were not yet available.

“The victim has been released and reunited with his family but I am yet to get the details,” Butswat said.

Chief Inegite Jonathan was kidnapped at his residence in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa, along with a 35-year-old relative, Mr. Samuel Oki, who was killed by the abductors. The remains of Oki were found floating at Otuoke creeks two days after the abduction.

Pa Jonathan was earlier kidnapped from his house on February 28, 2014 and was freed by security forces, at Akipli Community in Ogbia on March 10, 2014. (News Express)
