Governor Fayose and his entourage came for what he described as a private assessment of developmental work in the university, 10 years after he attended his last official ceremony at EKSU as the visitor to the university.

Professor Aina and the team received the governor at the university gate, hence, the tour of projects, both completed and ongoing started from the College of Medicine.

Professor Aina, who performed the function of a tour guide, informed the governor that his administration completed the multi-million naira medical library, which has been described as the best in West Africa.

The vice chancellor added that accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Medical Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) were impressed with the infrastructural facilities on ground at the College of Medicine, including the medical students’ hostel, laboratories and departmental buildings.

The governor’s entourage then moved on to the newly constructed school of Postgraduate Studies, the ongoing reconstruction site of the University Library, the Faculty of Management Sciences, and the Faculties of Science and Social Sciences.

Governor Fayose took his time to inspect the construction works as well as shared suggestions with the contractors on site.

He commended the masterful architectural work at the new Faculty of Education, Entrepreneurship Centre and the ongoing construction of the multi-million naira students’ hostel, which is a Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) arrangement.

According to the vice chancellor, the beautiful Students’ Union building was donated by an alumnus of the university, Honourable Kingsley Kuku, Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Amnesty.

The tour of the projects afforded the visitors a rare opportunity of witnessing the unprecedented developmental achievements recorded in three and a half years leadership of Professor Aina.
The governor, in the remarks, commended the Professor Aina-led management team for its prudent management of resources, adding that he was impressed with the remarkable growth in less than four years.

“Sometimes it is not about the volume of resources, but the management of resources. This vice chancellor has performed excellently well and those, who have been sending text messages to me urging his removal should stop sending such text messages to me,” the governor said.

Governor Fayose also assured the university community that he would constitute a new governing council for the institution soon.
