According to Nigerian Tribune, the Federal Government, on Friday, assured Nigerians that power supply would be stabilised in the next two years.

President Goodluck Jonathan made the pledge at the inauguration of 750MW Olorunsogo II Power Station in Olorunsogo, Ogun State.

The generation plant was constructed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) and it is one of the 10 National Independent Power Plants constructed by the company.

According to President Jonathan, “Private sector-controlled power sector will be midwifed and the interface between government and private sector will be sealed properly and Nigerians will take power for granted like in other countries.”

He said that stability in power sector would stimulate small and medium scale enterprises. “We want to stabilise  power sector to stimulate SMEs because our industries cannot survive on generators,” he said.

Furthermore, Jonathan stressed that his government had invested $8.26 billion so far in NIPPs from Excess Crude Account (ECA), saying that “$8.26 billion has been invested so far in NIPPs from ECA. These plants will be privatised through transparent exercise and the proceeds will be re-invested to boost transmission networks and upgrade other identified projects,” he stated.

He explained that he would inaugurate the Egbin power station on Saturday (today), expressing his happiness that he had continued to deliver on his campaign pledges including that of reforming the power sector. (Source and Photo credits: NAN, Nigerian Tribune).

  1. You guys should stop deceiving yourselves. And you want me to believe that power supply will stabilize in 2017. Go tell the marines. Please stop playing politics of the past. I can bet you that 2017 will be the same as now if not even worse. You remember that this power supply stabilization was promised about four years ago, and now they are re-promising it. How much money did they steal for this so called inauguration that will lead to nothing other than stealing more money.
Tell me one of the many promises from the government that has been met – dredging of river Niger, second Niger bridge, railways, Enugu international airport, potable water, Lagos Benin Expressway, educational system, healthcare system unemployment, reliable and inexpensive phone system, infrastructure development. These thieves travel all over the world and enjoy all these facilities in other countries, paid by us, yet they don’t deem it necessary for their own people to enjoy the same type of amenities due to wickedness and selfishness. I always feel very angry when I read about all these inaugurations, flag offs, commissions, etc because I know they don’t mean anything other than deceit and avenues to steal more money.
