The death of two young women at Elegushi private beach on Sunday has caused public outrage and outcry among relatives of the victims as well as other concerned citizens.

The victims, Adesola Ogunmefun and Funmi Odusina, who were postgraduate students of the University of Lagos drowned at Elegushi private beach on Sunday. The two women were attending a friend’s birthday party when the incident occurred.

Do Private Beaches In Lagos Have Lifeguards?

A third person who was also submerged by strong tides and was simply identified as Bolu survived . A campaign started online petitioning the Lagos state government over negligence on the part of Elegushi beach for their failure to have life guides at the beach.

The hashtag #SaveLivesAtTheBeach drew questions on the absence of lifeguards at most private beaches in Lagos.

The Lagos state Police Command confirmed the arrest of the managers of Elegushi Private beach, a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer said. (Informationng)
