The Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in the wee hours of this morning expressed shock at news of the kidnap of a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo.

Senator Anisulowo, former Minister of State for Education, represented Ogun West Senatorial district from 2003-2007 at the Senate. She was kidnapped on Wednesday evening alongside her security aide in Igbogila area of the state.

While describing the incident as “disturbing,” the Ogun State Governor in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant (Media) Adejuwon Soyinka called on the kidnappers of the Senator and her aide, to immediately release them without conditions.

“Ogun State is not and cannot be a place for any form of criminal element, including kidnappers,” Amosun said.

He assured residents of Ogun State of their safety adding that security agents are already on the trail of the kidnappers of Senator Anisulowo.

“As a government, we will do everything within our powers to rescue Senator Anisulowo and her aide as well as bring the perpetrators of this act to book,” Governor Amosun said, adding: “We are on top of the situation.”

Senator Anisulowo, who celebrated her 70th birthday some weeks ago in Ilaro, the headquarters of Yewaland, is being rumoured to be nursing gubernatorial ambition in 2019.
