The Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has said his unflinching support for the Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, was not based on sentiment and personal relations.

The former Speaker said he supported the Dogara project against the candidature of his main challenger, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, because of his personal conviction in Dogara’s vast experience and quality leadership.

Tambuwal, who was the immediate past Speaker, stated this when he hosted Dogara’s kinsmen under the auspices of Zaar Development Association.

According to Daily Sun, the group was led by its National President, Istifanus Gambar, who said they were in Sokoto to appreciate the support given to their kinsman, (Dogara) during the tussle.

The group noted that the support given to Dogara has rekindled the hope of minorities of the North that the caliphate is alive to its historical antecedence of forging unity of the North regardless of ethnic and religious differences.

“The fact that by your singular patriotic decision to openly throw your weight behind Rt. Hon Dogara to emerge as Speaker, you have demonstrated that the North can crush artificial barriers and overcome the unfortunate nemesis of acrimonious dichotomy of ethnicity and religions,” he explained.

In his response, Tambuwal noted that his personal relationship with the House Majority Leader in spite of his position, remained intact. (Daily Sun)
