God Bless the Anagos, By Femi Fani-Kayode

There is no mind on earth that is more enquiring, more difficult to impress, more difficult to navigate, more difficult to comprehend, more difficult to deconstruct, more difficult to intimidate and more difficult to manipulate or sway than that of the Anago and those that the world refer to as the Yoruba.

He is accomodating, gentle, generous and warm to all and he will always offer a friendly hand and a warm smile.

Yet make no mistake about it: he has immense insight, he sees all and he misses nothing.

He is patient, deep, profound, fearless, courageous and yet at the same time cautious, and almost reticent when in the company of those he does not know or trust.

He understands the power of good and, more often than not, he treasures and fosters it and he appreciates the generational and dark depths of evil and, more often than not, he resists it.

He is a formidable foe and one that never forgets an act of generosity and kindness or an insolent and pre-meditated sleight.

You dishonor him or underestimate him at your own peril.

The wise treats him with caution because he is capable of sending you to an early grave whilst wearing a broad smile.

The sensitive appreciates him because he is capable of inspiring the wounded soul, healing the broken heart and resurrecting the crushed spirit with his deep and unfathomable love, his poetic language and his warm and encouraging words.

I am so proud of my Anago ancestry. And no matter how much and how bitterly we may disagree, I take NO Yoruba man as my enemy but rather view them ALL as my kinsmen and brothers.

God bless the Anagos. God bless the Federal Republic of Oduduwa.
