A non-governmental organisation, Save Lagos Group (SLG) has queried the rationale behind the removal of the statue of late legal Icon and social crusader, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, from Freedom Park in Ojota, Lagos State. It advised Governor Ambode to re-erect the statue within three months, “as it has been served as a symbol of democratic struggle in Nigeria.”

The Save Lagos Group (SLG) spoke via a statement signed by the Convener, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman.

It warned that failure by Ambode to restore the statue within the stipulated time “would mean that his government sits on a keg of gun powder of human rights activists in Nigeria.”

SLG told Ambode “not to be intoxicated with the cosmetic inflated projects being carried out in the state.” It challenged him “to tell the whole world the cost of each project embarked upon in the state and the total cost of the recent celebration of 50 years anniversary of Lagos State.”
