The European Champions League currently in the vaults of FC Barcelona will remain in Spain for at least the next one year but will have a new home: The City of Madrid.

Minutes ago at their Santiago Bernabu fortress, Real Madrid ensured that by beating visiting Manchester City of England with a solitary goal in the second leg semi-final to set up a final against city arch rivals Atletico Madrid, who last night in Germany eliminated Bayern Munich to book a final ticket.

Today’s game was settled in only 20 minutes of play when Gareth Bale’s shot from the right was deflected into the far corner beyond goalie Joe Hart. Efforts by City to equalise, including the second half introduction of Nigerian starlet Kelechi Iheanacho, proved abortive.

The goal made all the difference as the first leg played last week in England ended barren.

This is the first time City have reached this stage of the competition. (DailySports.ng)
