25-year-old male hairdresser, Izuma Ajaere was sentenced to death by an Ikeja High Court, in Lagos on Wednesday for stealing a laptop and a mobile phone at gunpoint.
Justice Kudirat Jose found the convict Izuma Ajaere guilty as charged and ordered that he should be hung by the neck until he dies.
Jose in her judgment noted that the evidence of Mr Uchenna Ukah, the victim of the crime was pivotal in convicting Ajaere.
She said, “The prosecution has proved the charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery beyond a reasonable doubt.
She added, “The defendant is hereby sentenced to death for conspiracy to commit armed robbery and sentenced to death for armed robbery.
“He is to be hanged by the neck till he is dead, may the Lord have mercy on his soul,” the Judge said.
She said, Ukah in his testimony was, ‘clear and emphatic’ about the series of events of the armed robbery.
Hang whoever Islamizes Nigeria on the neck! All these criminals who pervert justice and kill those they made thief through corrupt practices should be punished first. The other day a little boy was killed in the street of Lagos and burnt for stealing GARRI, and nobody bathed an eyelid. The circulation of that story and this particular sentence shows that Nigerians are living in the 12th century. All over the world it is said that Nigeria is corrupt. The question I continue to ask is, who made these young ones thieves? The same politicians who are either in the Legislature, Judiciary or Executive (Three arms of Government). Many of them know that neither are their educational records straight, nor do they get into position by due process but through bribery and even corrupt practices yet they stand to become “god” deciding who should live or die. Nigeria is finished. How many magistrates, judges and legal practitioners have been arraigned by EFCC for inappropriate practices, and these are those who fell foul with the regime, or who bluntly refused to join APC. Nigerians must rise to defend the future of Africa otherwise these bigots who kill and maim for foreign religion would put the rest of the country to jeopardy!
