Barely five days after a daring jail break at the Kuje Prison in Abuja, officials say they will carry out an appraisal of security arrangements at all prisons in the country.
Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Danbazzau (Rtd), revealed this when he visited the Kuje Prison in Abuja.
Two inmates escaped from the Kuje Prison during a jail break at the weekend.
General Dambazau explained that the new arrangement will ensure that there is no re-occurrence of weekend’s jail break.
The Nigerian Prison service has already begun investigations into the jailbreak.
The two inmates who escaped during the incident are high profile kidnappers who abducted and killed a woman.
They have been identified as Maxwell Ajukwu and Solomon Amodu.
According to reports, the officer in-charge of the Kuje Medium Prisons, Musa Tanko and the Chief Warder, Stephen Gbabo, may be queried over the mysterious escape.
Meanwhile, the prison has also insisted that Charles Okah, the alleged mastermind of the Independence Day bomb blast is still in their custody despite the jail break.
In a statement issued, the Prisons service said, “Contrary to speculations that there was a jail break in Kuje Medium Security Prison and that Charles Okah had escaped from lawful custody, I wish to state that Charles Okah is still in the prison safe and sound.”
Okah is the leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta.
He is currently detained over his ongoing trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly masterminding the October 1, 2010 bombing in Abuja.
He has denied any involvement in the jailbreak that occurred at Kuje Prison, Abuja on Friday. (Tv360nigeria)
