More than 21 Killed, 50 injured by Suicide Bomber in Zaria blast

333x235xkaduna-bomb-blast-e1436265199592.jpg.pagespeed.ic.hmE4OEW_NFAccording to The Sun, more than 21 persons were killed and 50 injured in a sudden bomb explosion at the secretariat of Sabon Gari local government, Zaria, in Kaduna state on Tuesday.

The bomb is suspected to have been planted by a suicide bomber shortly after a speech by the newly appointed caretaker committee chairman and local government staff attending a screening exercise. The blast destroyed parts of the secretariat building.

Kaduna state police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Ambursa, told journalists that the male Suicide bomber sneaked into the crowd of people at exactly 10am on Tuesday and detonated the bomb which killed him and 21 people. “Many people are injured and are receiving treatment at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital,’’ he said.

Speaking at the scene of the incident, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state said: “We want to express our deep regret over the sudden incident… and we will take all necessary measures to forestall a future occurrence’’.

He urged people to be vigilant and report suspicious characters to nearest police or authority.

Governor El-rufai visited with the victims at the hospital and assured that government will render all assistance by paying all treatment expenses. He also commended the management of the hospital for proper care of the victims.

Earlier, the chief medical director of the hospital, Prof Ibrahim Khalid, had told the Governor that they received more than 12 corpses and 32 persons who sustained injuries. “We are appealing to people to donate blood to the victims…,” he said. (The Sun).
