The Acting Inspector General of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has said that under his leadership, the police would be governed by internationally recognised core values of policing.
After his appointment on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Idris told reporters that the issues of integrity, accountability, respect for diversity, compassion and ensuring that Nigeria’s streets, neighbourhood and communities remain safe would be priority to his leadership.
“We will do everything possible to ensure that we provide the best service for Nigeria,” he stressed.
On his part, the retired Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Solomon Arase, thanked Nigerians for the support he received from them during his tenure as the police boss and sought same support for his successor.
“By extension I appeal to you to give the same support that you gave to me to my successor.
“He is a younger man and I am sure that he will be abreast with contemporary policing issues,” Mr Arase said,” he told reporters.
The Acting IGP is from Kutigi, Lavun in Niger State.
He was born on January 15, 1959 and was enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force in 1984, after graduating from the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria with a Bachelors degree in Agriculture.
He also holds a degree in Law from the University of Maiduguri. (Channels TV)
