New Year Crossover Service fee is reportedly N1,000 per attendee at Christ Embassy

pastor-Chris-stargistLike he’s been doing for the past few years, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the head-pastor of Christ Embassy was reported to have made his followers pay N1,000 each as gate fee to attend the Church’s New Year Crossover service which held at their Ikeja church HQ on December 31, 2014. The ones who could afford to buy the gate pass were allowed in while those who couldn’t were asked to go back home. Is this not enough to make some of them angry?

According to LIB, in 2013, the church said the reason they did this was to reduce the number of people who come for the annual service, because the venue couldn’t handle the thousands that showed up, many or whom were not even members of the church. So, it was their own way of controlling the crowd.

So, if the HQ’s sitting capacity is about 20k, and let’s say they got that number to pay N1k each to attend a church service of crossing-over from one year to the next, that would be about N20m for the church from just gate fee. Some say that is extortion, that no church should ask its members to pay for attending such service and some say they understand why the church would insist on this. But, do the members of this church know that once a person is alive, his/her crossing-over from one year to another is automatic? (Source and photo credit: LIB)
