Nigeria must remain one – Buhari tells Service Chiefs

Uncategorized

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday ordered Nigeria’s Service Chiefs to ensure that Nigeria remains one in accordance with his position as stated in his speech on Monday.

The directive was disclosed to State House Correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olonishakin, after Service Chiefs met with Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to Olonishakin, Buhari said they should ensure that his directive was carried out to the latter.

He said, “In his address, the President talked about the unity of the nation which is not negotiable. We have all been fully instructed to ensure that that the directive is carried out to the latter.

“We have been in a meeting with Mr. President for the last three hours. All we have done is to update him on all security issues around the country, within the country and outside the country where our troops are.

“Of course, we have just updated him because he is aware of what’s been happening.

“He has been receiving regular briefings from the acting president and he has also been going through the print media and the electronic media to follow the happenings in the country.

“After the meeting, he has directed on some areas we should look at so as to enhance our operations in the country.

On the issue of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Olonishakin said, “The issues of security, every security threat, all security threats were treated one after the other ranging from terrorism to kidnapping, herdsmen/farmers clash, to IPOB issue, were all treated. Comments were made as to what to do as regards those issues.”

  1. Something is seriously wrong with the directive given by the president.

First, the president is no longer an army general who gives decrees and people will jump to follow them with immediate effect. Even if he mostly acts and behaves like we are in a military dictatorship country, we are still practicing democracy.

Secondly, when he says that Nigeria must remain one and undivided because he believes so.Who the hell made him God of Nigeria? He is blindly and foolishly ignoring the cries of the people…whether those people are Hausas, Yorubas, Igbos, or Tivs.

Finally, when he gave the directives to his service chiefs that his order must be followed to the “latter,” what was that order? To shoot and kill all the IPOB agitators? I hope he gave the same order and sent the same or similar troops to the north to deal with the people that are giving ultimatums to the Igbos to vacate their premises on or before October 1. Those people also are giving “hate and subversive speeches.”

One would hope that the convalescing periods of this president would have changed certain behaviors in his characteristics. But instead of jumping to conclusion, let me wait for clarifications on what the orders he gave to his service chiefs are.

Some people will never change…so it definitely seems!

  2. Fr. Obimma, Ebube Monso is truly a God sent Priest. His advice to Nnamdi Kanu is genuine and is packed with wisdom. Peace is the answer to many of our Nigerian problems especially people from the East and West.

May God continue to bless and guide our President, Vice President and leaders of Nigeria and grant them the wisdom, caring and loving spirit necessary to move Nigeria forward in unison, peace and prosperity. Amen!
