This was revealed by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo through his Twitter handle on Monday.

“I am pleased to say that the federal executive council (FEC) has approved the concessioning of the Lagos and Abuja airports,” Osinbajo said.

The concession has been approved despite the protests of the airport workers under the aegis of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and the National Union of Pensioners (NUP).

The unions have vehemently kicked against the concession as proposed by government, saying interested concessionaires should be negotiating on the nation’s non-viable airports.

Last year, Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, said there was no going back on the plan.

The Federal Government says the current state of the nation’s economy has made it difficult for it to fund the development of airport facilities.

Sirika had noted that the concessioning of the airports will ensure that they are properly managed, while the government will still retains their ownership. (TV360 Nigeria)
