The handing over process which had started about 20 years ago was completed with the signing and exchanging of documents between the state government and the Federal Government in Abuja.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, signed for the Lagos State while the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, signed on behalf of the Federal Government.

Ironically, Fashola who signed for Federal government of Nigeria was a former governor of Lagos State.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had made a formal request to the Presidency to have the presidential lodge released to Lagos to enable the state to transform the Marina-Onikan axis into a world-class arts and tourism hub.

The edifice which was built before Independence in 1960 had housed Presidents and Military Heads of State, before the relocation of the nation’s capital to Abuja.
