Nigerian movie community is grieving the loss of veteran actress Cecilia Obi-Kechere, whose death has left many in shock and reflection.
Reports of her passing was officially shared by the Directors Guild of Nigeria in a statement posted on its Instagram page. According to the guild, the actress died on Monday, April 27, 2026, following a prolonged illness.

”We were infonrmed yesterday that Cecilia Obi-Kechere. passed on on 27th of April 2026 after a prolong illness.
On behalf of the National Executive Council and the entire DGN family, I extend my deepest condolences to her family, loved ones, and all members of the Abuja Chapter in this difficult time. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace” the statement read in part.
