Nigerian Senate, CBN Governor meet over diminishing value of the naira

Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, was at the Senate today for a meeting with the lawmakers which was held behind closed doors.

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, however, dropped some hints about the purpose of the meeting during plenary.

According to him, some of the issues discussed bordered on the depreciation of the naira; the price of the naira against the dollar; travails of bureaux de change; imports and exports; the diversification of the economy and other related matters.

The outcome of the meeting was yet to be made public as at the time of filing this report.

Saraki also announced before the plenary session came to an end, that the Senators should pick copies of the 2016 Draft Budget from the Office of the Clerk of the Appropriation Committee, ahead of the commencement of debate on the proposals tomorrow.
