The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, presently under pressure to resign said on Friday afternoon, that he would not surrender to calls from a cross section of Nigerians to resign, explaining that he is not contemplating their wish at the moment.

Saraki, in a release signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Yusuph Olaniyonu, alleged that those calling for his resignation were being sponsored by politicians who had always opposed his leadership since he emerged Senate President last June.

Referring to his case at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, he stated that his detractors were trying to circumvent the country’s judicial system.

According to the statement: “There’s a case in the Tribunal and a resultant appeal at the Court of Appeal and the underlining philosophy of our legal system is that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

“Those who are contemplating his resignation want to circumvent the Nigerian judicial system. They are obviously being sponsored by some politicians.

“The Senate President is not contemplating any resignation. He will surely have his day in court,” the statement said.
