Nigeria’s chances brighter as another Nigerian gets Grammy nomination

The chances that the 2017 Grammy awards may produce a Nigerian winner is getting brighter with another Nigerian nomination.

Faridah Seriki known by her stage name Kah-Lo, a rising international artiste and daughter of former Minister of Defence and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Chief Demola Seriki has been nominated for the Grammy Awards.

Kah-Lo, an alumna of Vivian Fowler Memorial College for girls, was nominated in the Best Dance Recording category for her work in “Rinse & Repeat”.

Rinse & Repeat by British Disk Jockey, Riton featured Kah-lo’s vocal on the four-minute track. Although not popular in Nigeria, the song was released as a digital download in the United Kingdom on February 26, 2016. The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number 13 and at number 2 on the UK Dance Chart.

The writer-turned-singer describes herself as a multi-talented, monotone rap princess. Her latest work with Riton is another dance music, Betta Riddim.

Nigerian pop star, Ayo ‘Wizkid’ Balogun also got a nomination as an associated act on Canadian rapper, Drake’s album, Views for the Album of the Year category. (The Punch)
