Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, today appeared before the Senate committee on Ethics investigating the allegations of bribery and corruption leveled against him by Senator Isa Misau. Recall that sometime in August, Misau granted an interview with a National Daily where he alleged that the police force under the leadership of the IGP, collects bribe from police officers to influence their posting and promotions. Misau also alleged that the police boss collects bribe from important personalities before assigning security details to them.Misau petitioned the Senate on October 4th to investigate his allegations. The Senate immediately ordered its Committee on Ethics to investigate and report back to the house on its findings. Misau appeared before the committee on October 25th.
Idris this afternoon appeared before the committee to respond to the allegations. He has already filed a N5 billion defamation lawsuit against Misau.
