Mauritius President, the only female president in Africa at the moment, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim has resigned.
She resigned on Saturday, her lawyer said.
Gurib-Fakim, Africa’s only female head of state, submitted her resignation in the “national interest,” her lawyer Yousouf Mohamed told reporters.
The Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, had said Gurib-Fakim would resign after she was accused of using a credit card issued by an international Non-Governmental Organisation to buy clothes and jewellery.
