Gunmen kill Oyo Assembly memberA member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gideon Aremu, has been murdered  in Ibadan, the state capital.

Aremu was  shot in front of his house in Alakia area of Ibadan by unknown gunmen at about 9:50 pm on Friday.

His corpse was said to have been deposited at the morgue of Toun Memorial Hospital, Iwo Road, Ibadan.

Until his death, he was a member of Labour Party (LP) representing Oorelope Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Information, Public Relations and Security.

The 41-year-old just completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Mathematics and Statistics at University of Ilorin.

He already collected his convocation gown for the ceremony slated for next week.

While confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) AdekunleAjisebutu said the command considered it a case of suspected murder.

He said: “The Commissioner of Police (CP) has deployed enough human and other resources to track down the killers.

“We are using this opportunity to appeal to members of the public who have information to please come up and assist the police.

“For now, we won’t want to make statements that can jeopardise investigation.” (The Nation)
