Police, butchers clash in Ibadan over demolition and relocation of abattoir

Reports coming in from Ibadan, Nigeria, have it that the popular Bodija market has been engulfed by crisis. The whole area is reported to have been very chaotic.

It was gathered that butchers and policemen as well as other security agents battle over the demolition of the abattoirs and the relocation of butchers to Amosun village by the state government.

According to Daily Post, there were gunshots and burning of tires on the road by protesting butchers who are resisting the relocation order issued by the government.

Another source, however, informed that about six people, including three male and three female have lost their lives as a result of the clash.

In the last two weeks, the butchers have persistently resisted the relocation order by the state government.

They held a press conference on Sunday and also staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday where they were told to go back to their respective locations by the Deputy Governor of the State, Chief Moses Adeyemo who promised that their matter will be looked into.
