Lagos: Police deploy 36,204 officers,  500 vehicles, 5 gunboats, 2 choppersThe Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Kayode Aderanti, who was flanked by other senior officers from sister security agencies and the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos state, revealed that the security agencies and paramilitary agencies which include the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Civil Defence Corp have worked out a robust scheme that will ensure a peaceful election.
He said: “We have deployed a total number of thirty six thousand , two hundred and four (36,204) personnel drawn from all the security and emergency response agencies. In the area of logistics , we have deployed 500 patrol vehicles, 100 buses ,100 motorcycles, seven trucks, three Black Maria truck, one luxury bus, three Armoured Personnel Carriers in each Senatorial zone. Five gun boats to man the waters. Two helicopters for aerial surveillance and patrol,”
The Lagos Police boss also urged residents to avail themselves of the communication channels made available by the command to report all incidences they want the command to look into.
He said: “We encourage Lagosians to report incidences requiring our attention through the following dedicated lines domiciled at the Ops Room: 08079279349,08127155071 and 08063299264. Therefore, we most solemnly pledge to be neutral, non partisan and very firm in all our dealings and the operations before, during and after the elections”
The Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Akin Orebiyi, urged residents to abide by the Electoral Act and conduct themselves in an orderly manner.
Mr. Orebiyi also added that elections in the riverine areas will be free and fair as he assured that all the electoral materials will be available.
He said: “We are working closely with the Navy and we have their full support . There will be life jackets, three kinds of boats, speedboats, canoes and commercial boats will be deployed from tomorrow in the 241 polling booths across the water.
We urge residents to conduct themselves in an orderly manner during the elections to prevent the breakdown of law and order.” (Cityvoiceng)
