Let me start by wishing all Facebook friends a very Happy New Year. Let me also say a big Thank You for all your likes, comments and messages throughout last year. I must specially thank you all for the warm wishes during my 25th wedding anniversary to Bola and most especially for the condolence messages during my grandmother Mama HID Awolowo’s funeral. We had hoped Mama will be alive to celebrate her centenary but we thank God a life well spent. My personal take on the whole burial celebrations (11 days of activities) are that Papa Obafemi Awolowo came back 28 years after his demise to bury his wife. Indeed the Guardian newspapers headline the day after the burial sums it all up ” H.I.D finishes gloriously ‘
The Sun newspaper captured it as “Awo’s wife goes home in blaze of glory ”

The book of Corinthians 7.39 says “A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives”.
Mama you clearly surpassed that biblical injunction. You fell in love with Obafemi Awolowo, married him and the totality that was him. Yours was a love and marriage of total submission.
You taught me how to pray and to date I can recite our Lord’s Prayer and most Psalms in Yoruba. How can I forget singing together at the Church in Ikenne?
I benefited from living with both Papa and yourself, I observed your relationship first-hand and it was indeed a joy to watch the old fashion romance, the occasional quarrels which were immediately settled. What a partnership!
You stood strong for him when he was weak and even stronger when he was strong. You were upright and faithful till your demise “Roma Locuta, causa Finita”. Your husband had spoken “My Jewel of inestimable value” case closed.
HID, like Metis mother of Athena, you were a titaness of good counsel, advice, planning, cunning, craftiness and wisdom. You earned the rose and you bore it. Matrona, Conjuga, Domina, Acoetis Uxorem Extraordinary!!!
