A Magistrate court sitting in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria, has remanded seven Yoruba Nation agitators at Abolongo Correction Centre in the State for invading a radio station.
The suspects were accused of invading Amuludun station of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, (FRCN) Moniya in Akinyele local government area on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
The suspects who are arraigned on a 4 count charge of Conspiracy, treason and two count charge of armed robbery are, Noah Atoyebi, Adeleke Gbenga AbdulGaniyu Mustaoha, Ifagbola Elijah, Oladapo Ajala and Rasheed Jimoh.
They were arraigned on a 4-count at Ibadan Magistrate court before Magistrate P.O. Adetuyi on Monday, June 19, 2023, but their plea was not taken.
He ordered them to be remanded at Abolongo Correction Centre custody and adjourned the case to 13th September 2023 for legal advice.
Magistrate Adetuyi stated that the case file would be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for the advice.
The suspects hijacked the airwaves of the Amuludun station, allegedly collected all the valuables including the mobile handsets of the broadcast staff on duty thereby making it impossible for them to communicate with the outside world.
The alleged agitators took over the station and broadcasted live.
The leader of the team reportedly headed straight to the broadcast studio and was on air for almost one hour.
“We are being sent to inform the people that Yoruba people have been freed. Henceforth, no more to Police and Army harassment. We are hereby calling for the release of our brothers and sisters that are serving jail term. We are neither here to harass nor injure anybody. We are here for peace,” the leader allegedly said.
