Shouts of Buhari greeted Fayose at Burial ceremony

Aftermath of Ekiti State Election Petitions Tribunal verdict, no jubilation in Ado Ekiti; shouts of Buhari greeted Fayose at Burial ceremony. Signs that the popularity of Governor Ayo Fayose has waned considerably was confirmed yesterday shortly after the Ekiti Elections Petition Tribunal verdict was delivered in Abuja affirming his victory at the polls on June 21, 2014.

Governor Fayose who had expected that his ever ready band of Okada riders and miscreants who he always mobilises for rallies would troop out  in jubilation over his victory, was shocked that nothing of such happened as resident went about their normal businesses as if nothing happened.  In fact, many people who heard about the judgment were sad that Fayose who had been tormenting them was not sent packing by the Tribunal.

The Monitors later learnt that the Okada crowd of Fayose who are always on hand to troop out at the slightest notice has since stopped doing so because they have realised that Fayose is an ingrate who has turned the heat on them since he became governor over two months ago. Two days ago, an Okada rider who was arrested on the orders of Fayose because he was against the merging of the unions which the Governor was proposing, was remanded in prison custody till January 2015. This infuriated Okada riders who trooped out to demonstrate against what they call the wickedness and high handedness of Mr. Fayose who does not tolerate any opposition.

This explains why no Okada rider or any other group came out to celebrate the victory of Fayose whose regime, everybody is tired of. When nobody came out to jubilate after the verdict, Fayose in his usual characteristic of attending burial ceremonies uninvited,  decided to test his popularity by attending a burial ceremony reception at Ola – Oluwa Muslim Grammar School, Ado Ekiti. He got the shock of his life when he got there and waved to the people but rather than the usual shouts of Oshoko which was the case in the past, everybody present was shouting Buhari as their response to his greeting.  He felt embarrassed and quickly left the ceremony.

It is a surprise to many how Fayose, who was so popular about three months ago suddenly became an object of ridicule and curses barely two months in office. May be this is why many people thought he must have purchased the judgment at the Tribunal because if it was a popular verdict, Ekiti people including his ever regular okada crowd would have trooped out to the streets in wild jubilation.   Time we tell how far he can go in his iron rule on Ekiti people who are known to resist oppression of any kind.
